Christian Dental Mission

The Christian Dental Mission, a ministry of the DMBA, has touched many lives with dental care and shared the Gospel with those in need in the Daviess and McLean County region since 1996. The clinic is located on Lancaster Avenue in Owensboro in a small home customized for dentistry next to the Baptist Center, and has modern digital radiography, computers and sterilization equipment and other modern dental equipment and restorative materials to deliver the best care for our patients. Eligibility to be treated at the dental mission is determined at the Owensboro Help Office where potential patients have financial screening and vouchers granted. People who have any form of dental insurance are not eligible, but rather those who are eligible are the working poor, unemployed, homeless, disabled, or those in other distress.

What a great opportunity for Christians to serve at this great mission point! We have two clinic teams that serve on two different Friday mornings that are staffed with volunteer dental missionaries serving as dentists, hygienists, sterilization technicians, receptionists, dental assistants, and chaplains. We hope to establish two more teams to complete the other two available Friday clinic days and we welcome new volunteers now! Of course, we need licensed dentists and dental hygienists and certified dental assistants, but training is available for the other positions!

Many have benefited from the free dental care to include dental examinations, diagnostic radiographs, dental fillings, extractions and oral surgery, cosmetic partial denture appliances, dental cleanings, and preventative diet and hygiene and smoking cessation counseling.

The dental mission has also taken the opportunity, like Jesus’ example, to not only meet the physical needs of people, but to share spiritual truth from the Word of God. All patients that are treated at the clinic meet with a chaplain to build relationships, pray for their needs, teach Biblical truths and read scripture, and to share the Gospel with those who are lost. Many have heard the Gospel and accepted Christ as their personal Savior and many have rededicated their lives to Christ or have just been encouraged in their daily lives through the work of the dental mission!

Testimony

Patsy came to the dental mission with dental needs for fillings and extractions and had an old removable partial denture with her front artificial teeth broken out of it. It was distressing to her that she could not smile like she wanted due to her missing front teeth. Through the work of her dental mission team, her removable partial denture was rejuvenated with the help of a dental lab that donated their time and materials to help her have a new smile. After years of an unsightly smile, Patsy was brought to tears of joy when she saw her smile and hugged the entire team! She was an example of one touched by the love of Christ that occurs regularly at the dental mission!
